After giving up on trying to get my O2 Broadband box to give out the right DHCP settings, I found this article: http://www.o2help.co.uk/change-lan-ip/
The trick is to change our IP address to one in the same subnet as the DHCP scope, turn off DHCP, edit it and turn it on again.
