So I’ve built this new PC and there are some settings and features that I can’t help but get stuck into. It supports AMD Live! and AMD cool’n’quiet. But what are they ?
AMD Live! is a bunch of tools to make the PC into a super media centre with media streaming and all the fancy stuff that Windows doesn’t quite manage. I doubt I’ll do anything with that lot as it reads as a long list of things I would try out but never seriously use.
Cool’n’Quiet on the other hand has turned my “Boeing 747 at take-off” computer into one that would sit quite happily in a library. It is unbelieveably quiet now. Hush silent. I recommend getting an ASUS M2N4-SLI board if only for this feature. It is so eerie for the PC to just be running without all the noise. It helps that the video card is also passively cooled too.
For a build-your-own living room PC, get this board or at the very least go AMD and look for the Cool’n’Quiet logo on the box. Then turn the feature on. Don’t forget to Tell Vista not to be too harsh with power saving. Let the hardware do it all for you. You won’t regret it.
