If you've ever had to do the equivalent of a "bonnet-up" on your PC you may appreciate knowing about some little (and large) bits of software that will save you time or frustration. Some of these tools are more like applications rather than utilities and will have a wider appeal. Enough waffle, let's look at some links:
If you need to migrate to another hard disk, perform a full-image backup or resize a partition without losing all the data, this is the suite of tools for you. There is also a disk editor for browsing around your platters and the usual collection of fixes. Has a bit of trouble installing on Vista but you can run from a CD orDVD to perform the most common tasks.
Burn files and movies to CD, DVD. Play back from CD or DVD. Edit music. Make labels. Very useful even under Vista.
If you are putting video on your PC, you'll probably have some tools with the camera to do simple edits. Video Studio Plus lets you do lots of fancy stuff to make compelling home movie shows as well as making it easy to fix common errors such as poor white balance. To top that, it also supports reading in AVCHD and writing to HD-DVD for those people that have spent a fortune on their video camera and now don't know how to edit the video.
